I'm very excited about this next semester. I am particularly looking forward to the advanced composition class I will be taking. I do enjoy writing, although I have some concerns about doing argumentative writing since my views tend to be very conservative. If the professor strongly disagrees, will she grade more harshly? I plan to try to avoid writing anything with a political theme. The last English class I took was in college in West Virginia. I disagreed with the professor on most topics. He upset me a lot. He was from the backwoods in West Virginia and told us many stories about how he and his siblings tortured animals when he was young. I didn't like him at all, but I think I actually attended class fairly regularly because my transcript says I got an A in that class.
My favorite teacher was Ms. Dickson, my senior writing teacher in high school. I just loved her! She was so encouraging. She was not conservative, but she had no problem putting her personal feelings aside. I remember loving the comments she wrote on my papers. I wish I'd kept the paper that she wrote something about how although she didn't agree with me, she appreciated my "many convictions". I hope she is still teaching. Although I have had many teachers and professors that were not too impressive, she was definitely my favorite.
I'm also taking Botany, a course I am not at all interested in, but I have to take it for a science degree. Maybe it will be more interesting than I anticipate. This class meets daily and has a 3 hour lab. The professor is the director of the science department, so it will probably be challenging. I really don't know what to expect.
Then, there's the online math class I signed up for as a review. I think I will enjoy that since I always loved math. Throughout the years that I haven't been in school, my husband and I have established a collection of algebra review books because he needed it for career advancement and I wanted it for fun! I'm a little concerned about the amount of work. I heard from another student, that even if you don't find it hard, there is still a lot of work.
Also signed up for Statistics--another necessary class. I have the book and it looks like it's going to be pretty easy also. I'm not at all concerned about it.
Lastly, just for fun, I signed up for table tennis! I have no table tennis skills, but I thought it would be a nice break from the academics and possibly help my GPA. My husband prides himself on his table tennis skills he developed in the Navy, so I'm hoping I can at least learn enough to be able to be a decent match for him.
Two weeks from today, the second semester will start. I'm eager and ready. I wonder if and how being in school is going to change me. I wonder if the kids will handle this semester better and if I'll be better at managing my time. That's all for now.
